Icanation's mission is to improve cross-cultural interactions.

We bring people from around the world together through conversation.

The key word in this sentence is conversation.  Not debates, not lectures...conversations.  What's the difference?  Let's look at the basic definitions of each of these.

  • Conversation      - an informal exchange of ideas by using spoken word,      typically between two people or a small group.
  • Debate - formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting in which opposing arguments are put forward; a formal contest of arguments.
  • Lecture      – oration to an audience.

Notice the key difference? Of the three words, only a conversation allows for the two-way exchange of ideas. Icanation creates events that really get people talking.  Because Icanation does not have a political or religious agenda, our conversation groups are not designed to present "one point of view".  Rather, we create opportunities for people to explore the viewpoints of others and learn more about diverse cultures through casual conversations.

Icanation's mission is to improve cross-cultural interactions.

We live and work in a global economy.  The more we know our global neighbors, the more we benefit. That's why Icanation has developed events specifically designed to improve communication and understanding between diverse cultural backgrounds.

We help internationals get the most out of their American experience, whether it is academics, business or social.

Fluency in American English:

At iCANation, we believe that language fluency is best achieved through meaningful content. If you are reading and/or listening to this, you have probably already completed several classes covering English grammar, structure and vocabulary. Yet you still struggle speaking, writing and understanding American English.

Now you seek fluency, but more importantly, you seek fluency in the topics of relevance for you in academic, business and social situations.

We can help. At iCANation, you will discover a constantly growing list of tools to aid in comprehension as well as speaking.

  • Topics include industry specific discussions, social gatherings, sports activities, and other everyday activities occurring in the United States.
  • In addition to technical vocabulary, we’ll expose you to some new proven methods we have developed over the years to grow your vocabulary:
    • Exponential English” - we’ll show you how to take a common word and apply it to many new uses

    • See the Words” - teaches you to see beyond the literal meaning of the words to grasp possible meanings of slang

    • Lazy American” - illustrates how native American may condense words, phrases and whole sentences in normal conversation.

We hope you enjoy the selections and learn in the process. And if you have any topics you would like us to add, we would love to hear from you.

English Conversation Groups: When we relax, we learn.

  • Casual, non-classroom settings speaking English with Americans and other internationals.
  • People from over 45 countries have participated in our conversation groups.
  • Proven to improve the confidence of speakers.

  • Icanation has no political or religious agenda. Our conversation groups are not designed to support one point of view.

Writing Workshops:  To work in America, you must be able to write like an American.

  • Writing skills often prevent an international student from getting an internship or job.
  • Most students believe they need to improve their English speaking skills but believe their writing skills are sufficient. Yet almost always, it is the writing skills that block their success.
  • Employers' ears forgive errors when they hear something incorrect provided the meaning is understood. However eyes zoom in on grammatical errors, poorly written emails or communications, because anything written on company letterhead will be a direct reflection on the Company.
